About the same as the surfing. Several places on the "far side" of the island will rent you boogie boards if you want them...Mezcalitos, Coconuts, Punta Morena, Regae Bar. Depending on the day, waves range from 1-4 ft. If you're going in October, maybe you'll catch a hurricane, in which case waves will be quite a bit larger.
